Hisao Iwashimizu is that rare breed of craftsman whose skill in his chosen craft is matched by a keen design sensibility. He creates works that while understated and minimalist in form like many traditional Japanese arts, possess rich textures and sensuous curves.
Raised in an ironware family, Hisao Iwashimizu earned a degree in law, followed by a stint in a rranding company before returning to his roots in Iwate, long famous for its cast iron. He founded his cast iron workshop Kukan Chuzo in 2009.
