Akebi Vine Bag with Cloth
Maker: Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten
Made in Japan
Akebi vine craft has been a traditional handicraft of Aomori Prefecture since the late Edo period. The number of skilled craftsmen producing these bags have been declining steadily over the years but the simple, natural beauty of the materials and careful handiwork that goes into their making have helped the bags retain their popularity.
Fabric maker Nakagawa collaborated with Miyamoto Kougei to produce these compact akebi bags. An attachable piece of reversable linen fabric that can be used for privacy is included, and the bag's tight weaving ensures that they are extremely sturdy and durable and can be used and enjoyed for a long time.
