Small footed bowl (kowan) finished with urushi. The urushi (lacquer) coat is very durable and the bowls are safe for use with both hot and cold foods.
Hiroyuki Watanabe studied the craft of Japanese lacquerware during his undergraduate years before receiving his master's degree in Industrial Arts from the prestigious Tokyo University of the Arts. He has since authored a book, taught and holds workshops on woodcraft, all while producing and exhibiting a line of handmade wood tableware and utensils.
