Tankin artist Saori Omomo is drawn to patterns and motifs from nature. Using hammering techniques such as Uchidashi, and employing small tools of her own design, she decorates her brass and copper accessories with floral and shellfish motifs. Designs and patterns from antique metalware and textiles from cultures around the world also serve as inspiration for her work.

Tankin metal artist Saori Omomo fashions exquisitely detailed metal accessories by hand at her studio in Nigata Prefecture. The technique of tankin, which dates back to the Yayoi period, involves hammering, beating, or pressing metal to give it a form or pattern.
